When we have to paint, we must always keep in mind that the market offers us a large number of types of paints from which we must choose depending on the place where it is going to be applied and the conditions of the area, the finish of the paint will determine its durability.

Color can help a room look brighter or darker, so choosing the right finish is as important as choosing the right color. Although you may prefer the appearance of one finish over another, there are currently a wide variety of products available in specialized stores, so we will detail the different types of paints that we can find and their applications, to achieve the best quality

  • Matte and Flat: These finishes have no sheen and absorb light. They are best for concealing surface imperfections and painting mistakes. They are also the easiest to touch up. Commonly used for ceilings, foyers, adult bedrooms, closets, and dining rooms.
  • Eggshell and Satin: These finishes are easier to maintain than flat finishes, and really perform well in high traffic areas, or rooms where children or pets get messy. Commonly used in children’s bedrooms, playrooms, hallways, and family rooms.
  • Semi-Gloss, Soft-Gloss, and Medium-Gloss: These finishes are very durable and can stand up to frequent cleanings, but they have a visible shine. Commonly used for woodwork such as kitchen cabinetry, doors, and trim. Mildew resistant formulas of this finish are also a popular choice for high moisture areas, such as bathrooms.
  • Gloss and High-Gloss: These finishes are the most durable, but also have the most shine. They are usually reserved for trim, crown molding, front doors, back doors, window casings, and architectural details you want to highlight.
